The Humana Challenge, formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic, is a professional golf tournament played each January in California's Coachella Valley. Part of the PGA Tour's early season West Coast Swing, this tournament is well known for its celebrity pro-am, and was previously known for having five daily 18-hole rounds of competition vs. the Tour standard of four rounds. In 2012, the Humana changed its format to a traditional four round tournament, but played over three different courses. Currently, "the Hope" is the third event on the Tour's annual schedule, and is also part of the Tour's FedEx Cup competition.
The PGA Tour holds two tournaments in Hawaii at the beginning of the year. The first is the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, and the other is the Sony Open in Hawaii. After that, there is the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation. This tournament is the 19th of January to the 22nd, and up for grabs is $5,600,000. It is played at PGA West on the Palmer Course or Nicklaus Course in La Quinta, as well as the La Quinta Country Club in California. Jhonattan Vegas is the defending champ, taking home $900,000 last year.
The field for this tournament includes Kenny Perry, Stephen Ames, Lee Janze, Ricky Barnes and Rich Beem as well as Tag Ridings, Bio Kim, Rory Sabbatini and Keegan Bradley. Also playing in that tournament will be Nate Smith, Derek Lamely, Kevin Stadler and Greg Chalmers. Mark Brooks and Chris DiMarco are also part of that field.
