The Indian cricket team is touring Australia from 15 December 2011 to 3 February 2012. The tour includes four Tests, to contest the Border–Gavaskar Trophy (held by India at the start of the tour),[2] and two Twenty20s (T20Is).[3][4] India will also compete in the Commonwealth Bank Tri-Series with Australia and Sri Lanka.[5]
In the second Test match, Australian captain Michael Clarke (329*) scored the twenty-fifth triple century in Test match cricket.
The third Test match saw David Warner bring up a century in just 69 deliveries, setting a new record for the fastest Test century by an opening batsman.
After three Tests, Australia leads the series 3–0 and regain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

The Border–Gavaskar Trophy is a Test cricket series, played between India and Australia. It has witnessed some of the most competitive Test series played in recent years, with results usually either being a narrow win for one of the sides or a closely fought draw. It is currently played via the International Cricket Council's future tours program, with varying lengths of time between matches. If the series is drawn, then the country holding the trophy retains it.
The series is named after Australian cricketer Allan Border and Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who both scored over 10,000 test runs in their career and captained their respective teams. The first Border–Gavaskar Trophy series was played for in the 1996–1997 season and was won by India 1–0. Since then, the trophy has alternated between teams. Australia's failure to win the Border–Gavaskar Trophy in India led to Steve Waugh dubbing the Indian tour as the "Final Frontier" for the Australian team. In 2004–2005, Australia defeated India 2–1 in India. Australia's usual captain, Ricky Ponting, did not play in the winning matches due to injury and Adam Gilchrist instead captained the winning sides. In the 2007–2008 season, the Border Gavaskar trophy was played in Australia, with Australia retaining the trophy by winning the first two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney against India winning one as part of the four Test series. In the 2008–2009 edition, India defeated Australia 2–0 in a four match series in India to regain the trophy. In 2010 India retained the trophy by winning the two match series 2–0. Currently Australia leads the 2011-2012 series 3-0, with one Test remaining, thus meaning that Australia has regained the trophy for the first time since 2007-2008. The series is sometimes accompanied by One Day Internationals; these are not considered part of the trophy.
